Unfolding of Walter Benjamin’s theory according to which it is easier to observe life and survival from the vantage point of what is not directly related to them, and which considers the possibility of describing the life of works of art even if the last man were to disappear, because they would remain in the memory of God. ‘Lives in Translation’ bears on the lives of translators and translatologists and their place in literary history.
